November 2 at 12 30 p.m -All Senior Citizens welcome More than forty persons met with the Task Force of the Agency on Aging for Columbia County at the County Courthouse on October 1» The group com prised mainly of senior citizens from the various areas of the county, met with the task force to discuss and establish pri orities for the elderly citizens of the county Terri Wetle Planner for Aging from CRAG, explained to the group how the Task Force was developed and what criteria must be met in iwder to receive monetary assistance from State and Federal Agencies Mrs Welle told the group that F e deral Guidelines require that full time paid planners be hired to assist the local communities in defining and establishing prio rities and needs for the senior citizen Phil Walrod is the plan ner for Columbia County Mrs Wetle went on to explain that although Columbia County has only on«' percent of the elderly population within the State it did not necessarily mean that the County would only be eligible for a small portion of the monies available It might be. according to Mrs Wetle that Columbia County could demon strate a need for resources for the senior citizens that might be already available in the larger counties In this case Mrs Wetle t o l d the g r o u p . Columbia County could possibly receive a larger portion of the availahle funds Follow ing Mrs W etle s pre sentation. Robert Hunt Chair man of the Task Force intro duced the chairmen of the seven sub-committees who. in turn, presented information and sug gested priorities as compiled by the re sp e c tiv e co m m ittees These included Health Nutrition and Homemaking with Edith Haynes chairman Bob Stevens, vice-chairman made the presen tatior. Housing and Shelter with Nick Federici chairman with the presentation made by Mrs Am anda K am m er; E m p lo y ment Manpower and Income, presented by Norm Bermeier chairman Retirement Roles and Activities, with Mrs Evelyn Mathisen as chairman Mrs Shirley Peters, vice-chairman made the presentation, Alter natives to Institutionalization and Legal Aid presented by Mrs Kammer vice-chairman Mrs Lydia Erickson is chairman of this committee and Transpor tat ion and Mobility presented by Dorthy Churchill chairman After the various presenta tions the group discussed the subcommittees proposals and then voted or. priorities within the various groupings A final vote was taken on the major needs erf the elderly Transportation for the senior citizens was the number one priority according to the group The group agreed that trans portation should be provided for the optimum number of elderly Renters must file a copy of rent certificates for the 1973 calendar year with their pro perry tax refund claim s if they want to receive their refunds under The New Oregon Tax Refund program, according to Charles H Mack.
